My Hopes & Goals for 2024

Adelaide New Years at the River Torrens & Elder Park

Happy New Year! I can’t quite believe it’s almost the end of January as I type this post! It’s the 25th today, and I have had this post on my mental to do list since the end of last year.

Encouraged by most of the good results from last years list, I’ve been a little slow off the mark this year. Since I believe lots were achieved by the power of positive thinking and manifestation, I haven’t been exactly sure what I want to put out in the universe for 2024.

And to be honest, I’ve struggled to come up with more than a couple. I’m hoping that as I write this, inspiration will strike.

Hope everyone has a wonderful 2024, and whatever you put out into the universe, will come up roses 🌹

My 2024 Goals:

  1. Have a successful move back to Wellington
    I haven’t written about this yet, but Kaydes and I are moving back to Wellington. A few factors have had a hand in this decision, but the main ones are;
    – Kaydes’ dad is there and he would love for her to be in the same area/country as him,
    – The price of flying between Australia and NZ is a lot more costly now that she’s two,
    – Wellington feels more like ‘home’ than I could make Adelaide
  2. A lovely bedroom just for Kaydes
In the last couple of years since her birth, there’s been quite a bit of moving around. I’ve enjoyed the places we’ve moved to, it’s come at a small price. I haven’t been able to feel content and nest how I want, like so many others do in the newborn period. Don’t get me wrong, I am SUPER grateful that we had a roof over our heads, along with bucketloads of love and support! But it’s always been a little tainted with the grief of what I lost. We have shared large bedrooms for those years, as I loved co-sleeping with her for peace of mind and companionship. Now as we move back to Wellington, I am hoping that I finally get to give Kaydes the bedroom of her dreams (or what I can best imagine for her), and hopefully we nest in Wellington for the foreseeable future.
  3. Get more qualified in banking?
I have loved my job at People’s Choice Credit Union, soon to be People First Bank. For an area I felt like I always lacked in, I am grateful for the opportunity to have worked here. I have learned so much, and I’m certainly not looking forward to my parents dying and deceased estates = nightmare! 🙈 I would love to get into personal lending at some stage, but that really requires to be full time not part time like I am currently. In the meantime, I’ve been asked to work again at the Wellington Cable Car!
  4. Continue with the Festo & Theodore book
I have successfully written the early reader story, but no luck with the pictures yet. I tried a couple of different avenues but they didn’t go further really, so I’ll work on meeting some Wellington illustrators in March/April. Hoping to get it printed by Kaydes’ 3rd birthday as a gift in 2024.
  5. This website
It’s always a goal to write more on here, ie once a week. What I think as a simple goal at the time, seems to not pan out due to tiredness, wanting downtime, etc.
So I’m going to aim for 22 new posts this year. I think it’ll be more achievable now that Kaydes is older, sleeps better, and will have her own dedicated bedroom.
  6. Slow, sustainable shopping
Last year I did a bit of shopping, and wasn’t super happy with all my purchases. This year I plan to do a lot less, and do more thoughtful purchases. I also love a bit of opshopping, so I want that to be my main go to if possible. Australian opshops seem to be so much better than NZ ones! I think I may go to my local one every two days before I leave!

I think that’s all I have in me to think of at this point. You can tell by reading it, that my main themes are, gratitude for the past, and thoughtful nesting in my future! That’s certainly how I feel in my last week in Adelaide, I’m so grateful for the time here, but I’m so excited about life in Wellington!

What are some of your hopes and goals in 2024?
