Looking for the ultimate getaway or a romantic honeymoon spot? Moonlight Bay Resort in Ko Lanta, Thailand, is a destination that should be on your list. Nestled along a pristine beachfront with exceptional amenities and warm Thai hospitality, this resort offers an experience that will linger in your memory long after you’ve left.
Arriving at Paradise
The journey to Ko Lanta is part of the adventure. Although it’s 75 km (90 minutes) from Krabi Airport, the scenic drive through Thailand’s lush countryside made it worth the time. As soon as we arrived at Moonlight Bay Resort (formerly Moonlight Exotic Bay Resort), we were greeted with warm smiles. The check-in was smooth and efficient, setting the tone for the rest of our stay. The resort effortlessly blends modern luxury with a natural, tropical landscape spread over 24,000 square metres, giving it a unique and serene vibe.
Beachfront Life
For our stay, I booked a beachfront villa, and it did not disappoint. The villa had beautiful wooden floors, a spacious bed, and a large bathroom. The true star of the show, however, was the balcony. With panoramic views of the Andaman Sea and Phi Phi Islands, it quickly became our favourite spot. The balcony also featured an outdoor jacuzzi tub, perfect for cooling off during the heat of the day. We spent our time lounging in the outdoor chairs, and listening to the soothing waves.
Moonlight Bay Resort offers 26 hillside and seaside villas, along with 18 hotel rooms, all nestled in lush tropical surroundings. The villas are thoughtfully spaced to provide privacy, yet close enough to maintain an intimate feel. Waking up just steps away from the sea was an unforgettable experience, making our stay truly special.
The canal that winds through the gardens, leading to the private beaches, gives the resort a serene atmosphere. And with modern conveniences like free WiFi, Netflix on the Smart TVs, and air-conditioned rooms, you get the best of both worlds – nature and comfort.

Exploring the Resort
After settling into our villa, we headed straight to the beachfront bar and restaurant. The restaurant had a great selection of dishes, and their cocktail menu was perfect for unwinding. We enjoyed refreshing drinks on the cabana-style beds and hammocks while watching the sun dip below the horizon. The restaurant, Moonlight Cuisine, offers British-inspired dishes and an extensive buffet that caters to all tastes. You can enjoy meals throughout the day, with breakfast, lunch, and dinner options, all while enjoying the beachfront views.
In the mornings, we loved starting the day with their delicious cooked-to-order breakfast. I highly recommend trying their smoothie bowls – so fresh and filling!
For those who want to stay active, the resort offers a fully equipped gym, and you can also book yoga classes or cooking lessons. There’s even a kids’ area and library if you’re travelling as a family. The beachside massage hut is ideal for a mid-afternoon break, and the beachfront is quiet, so it never felt crowded. They also have two private beaches, so you can find your own peaceful spot. And if you’re staying for business, the resort has a conference room that fits up to 40 people.
For water lovers, the resort offers kayaking and snorkelling gear, perfect for exploring the vibrant marine life just off the coast. You can also rent bicycles to tour the island, a great way to experience Ko Lanta’s natural beauty at your own pace.

Making the Most of Our Stay
We rented a scooter and spent hours exploring the island. Ko Lanta’s laid-back vibe instantly appealed to us. Unlike the busier tourist spots in Thailand, Ko Lanta felt like a hidden gem—peaceful, affordable, and utterly charming. We found ourselves stopping at local markets, discovering hidden beaches, and enjoying meals at small, family-run restaurants.
The affordability of Ko Lanta meant we could indulge in decadent meals and drinks without worrying about the cost. For those on a budget, this island offers luxury without breaking the bank. The couple of nights we spent at Moonlight Bay Resort cost approximately $350 NZD. Every moment, from the time we arrived to the time we checked out, was filled with joy, relaxation, and a sense of being in a true tropical paradise.
A Lasting Impression
Our honeymoon at Moonlight Bay Resort was everything we had hoped it would be. The combination of luxury, nature, and Thai hospitality created a setting that was both romantic and rejuvenating. Whether you’re planning a honeymoon, an anniversary, or simply need a break, Moonlight Bay Resort is the perfect escape.
Since our stay, the resort closed during the COVID-19 pandemic but has recently reopened after undergoing some updates. The thought of returning one day with Kaydes, to experience those beautiful sunsets and the warmth of the staff once again is absolutely tempting.
