Inspired by Lonely Planet’s recent annual ‘Best in Travel‘ list, that included Nova Scotia, I wanted to write about visiting one of its iconic sights there.
Nova Scotia is a Maritime province located in eastern Canada, and is known for its stunning coastline, friendly people, and picturesque fishing villages, including Peggy’s Cove.

Maritime Fishing Village
Peggy’s Cove is such a delightful place to visit. You can explore the winding paths that lead down to the ocean, visit the local shops and galleries, or simply enjoy the stunning views. Or take to the sea, and go on a chartered fishing trip.
When I first arrived in this picturesque village, it was love at first sight. The vibrant houses painted with such beautiful colours captivated me and made for some really great photos!
Some say they were brightly painted so it helped fishermen or sailors see their houses from afar. Others say that the colours can bring good cheer when things seem bad.
one of the most recognisable lighthouses in the country

Peggy’s Cove is best known for its picturesque lighthouse nearby, Peggys Point lighthouse, the iconic symbol of the province.
Built in 1868, the 15 metre standing sentinel has been an important navigational aid. It combines natural beauty with maritime history.
You can explore the grounds of the lighthouse, which offer spectacular views of the rocky coastline. You can learn about the history of the structure and its importance to the community.

There’s opportunity to go hiking along one of the many trails in the area, and it’s a great place to spot wildlife, including seabirds and seals.
Just be a bit careful as you walk around, as the granite rocky coastline will be slippery when wet.
The weather is notoriously unpredictable, and strong winds can kick up waves that crash against the rocks. Be sure to dress warmly, wear sturdy shoes and pack your raincoat!
