Radelaide?!

Me at Henley Beach, Adelaide on my birthday

As 2023 rang in, I never saw us moving from Alice Springs anytime soon. That quickly changed with the town’s temperament, and moving to Adelaide was quickly put on the agenda. Now we’ve been living here for two months, and we are still slowly finding our feet, and enjoying the sights around Adelaide.

What brought the move on?

The decision to move from Alice Springs to Adelaide was not easy.  I absolutely love the geography of the area, and the almost daily walks we did around town. We had been living there for almost a year, but I had lived in Alice Springs years earlier too, so I knew and loved the area well. Nevertheless, I couldn’t ignore the less-than-subtle changes that were taking place in the town’s temperament. It was decided that it was time for us to leave, and look for a new place to call home.

Adelaide was the most attractive option, since Kaydence had hospital visits at the Adelaide Womens & Childrens Hospital. And I would hopefully find work at a different branch of Peoples Choice.

After a quick break in New Zealand to see family, Kaydence and I landed in Adelaide on March 26, 2023. Rather than feeling excited, which is almost a natural default of mine, I’ve felt more apprehensive in this move. And to be honest, that feeling hasn’t really left my side. But we are slowly getting there I hope.

How Adelaide has welcomed us

A few days after landing, I sought out daycare for Kaydence. The first one we visited near our home, was booked solid until the end of 2023. So we went to the next one closest at the University, it looked a little mangey and empty, so I skipped going into that one! The next closest was in the city. It wasn’t until I was getting closer to it that I realised it was in the People’s Choice building!

Is that a sign or what?!!  ..and they had a part time spot available!

So after a viewing, I was happy with what I saw, and signed her up to join mid-April. Next on the list, was for me to work when she’s in daycare. So I called my RM to say that I was in Adelaide, and would love a position at Flinders St, if there’s one going on the days I had available.. A couple of hours later, and one Ikea Kids Kitchen complete build later, and I got great news! 🎉

Radelaide?!

So we have a couple months living in Adelaide under our belts now, and we are enjoying the safety and freedom to do as we please. Not that they are particularly crazy or anything, but it’s nice to be able to walk home without some fear as darkness approaches.

Kaydes exploring Glenelg Beach, Adelaide

We have discovered a new buzz in the air, and it’s been great to feel like we’re slowly getting into that lane. Adelaide is a hub of activity with a plethora of events, activities, and social options that cater to everyone’s taste. Whether you love outdoor activities, sports, or fancy dining, Radelaide has everything to offer. We’ve already been to The Wiggles, and we plan on going to Disney on Ice in a couple weeks time. We’ve even been on the news when signing the Kings Coronation book at Government House!

Exploring the Sights

Days off are sometimes filled with beach suburb visits like Semaphore and Henley. But my favourite still remains Glenelg Beach. But most often, we go into the city to run errands, or do some shopping. I avoid my favourites Aje and Zimmermann, to protect my wallet haha! It’s very handy being able to catch the free Bus from where we live in North Adelaide, to the city and back again.

Adelaide Zoo is frequently visited. It has wonderful exhibits with Giraffes, Tigers, Otters, and Pandas! 🐼

It’s a foodie’s paradise here too, from street foods to fine dining experiences. I personally love snack crawling around the Central Market and the food is nothing short of amazing. My stomach is certainly enjoying this new home of ours!
