I’ve recently been on The Rock Tour with my friend Neviin, and tour guide Tom in the outback of Australia! Embarking on an epic backpacking tour through Uluru, Kata Tjuṯa, and Kings Canyon is an absolute must, and I’m so glad I did it!
The heart of Australia beckons with its awe-inspiring landscapes and rich indigenous history. Uluru, also known as Ayers Rock, is a colossal sandstone monolith standing at 348 meters high. It’s a sacred site for the Anangu people, with profound cultural significance. The rock’s surface appears to change colour, especially during sunrise and sunset, creating mesmerising hues.
We also visited nearby Kata Tjuṯa, also known as the Olgas. Kata Tjuṯa, meaning “many heads” in Anangu language, is a remarkable rock formation near Uluru. Comprising 36 domes, it’s a sacred site with deep cultural importance for the indigenous people. The Valley of the Winds walk allows you to explore the magnetic energy and stunning landscapes between the massive rock formations.
Lastly we visited and hiked around Kings Canyon, a geological marvel in Watarrka National Park, boasts towering sandstone walls and breathtaking scenery. The Rim Walk offers a thrilling exploration of its dramatic cliffs, weathered domes, and the lush Garden of Eden. Home to diverse plant and animal life, this canyon is a testament to the power of nature.
The best time for outback Australia tours is during the Australian winter, from May to September. The weather is mild, with daytime temperatures ranging from 20-25°C (68-77°F), creating ideal hiking conditions. Avoid the scorching summer months, as temperatures can soar above 40°C (104°F)!!
