A recent-ish diagnosis, Osteoporosis is not something I’m very happy to have for company! Stick that with a broken rib bone in May, when my daughter leaped on top of me for fun! I’m pursing a stronger me.
Everything I want to do in the future with Kaydes, has me being very mobile and not being stuck. I love to travel and do hikes (I’m pictured above having finished one), so I’m determined to make a positive change. I need to improve my bone density to either osteopenia or, in an ideal world, to a normal level.
This journey is about taking proactive steps to enhance my health and well-being, and I’m starting with:
High Calcium Smoothies
One of the first steps I’ve taken is incorporating high calcium smoothies into my daily routine. These delicious drinks are a great way to ensure I’m getting enough calcium, which is crucial for bone health. I’ll be sharing some of my favourite smoothie recipes soon, so stay tuned for those tasty and nutritious ideas!
Hormone Replacement
My condition Panhypopituitarism and its counterparts have a lot to answer for, but I’m better managing my hormone replacements. Now that I’m back in NZ, I’m back taking Omnitrope (or Somatropin). It’s a biosynthetic human growth hormone, which I take as a daily injection.
I also got put onto Estradot patch, which is one less daily pill to take, and is a stick-on patch that contains a hormone called oestradiol.
These hormones play a vital role in maintaining bone density, and by getting them under control, I’m hoping to see some positive changes in my bone health.
Exploring Workouts and Exercise
Exercise is essential for strengthening bones, so I’m also looking into specific workouts and exercises tailored to improving bone density.
Weight-bearing exercises like strength training are recommended for people with Osteoporosis , but I’m not very interested in that. Walking is also great, and I think I excel in that area lol. But I’m also looking into swimming or yoga.

Commitment to Progress
This journey is about more than just reaching a goal; it’s about committing to my health and well-being.
I know me, and know I’ll ebb and flow at different times, but I just need to keep the goal in mind: mucking around with Kaydes, and not being scared that I’ll break a bone.
But I’m ready to keep motivated, and make changes required to improve my bone density.
I’ll be occasionally sharing my experiences, tips, and progress. I also think that writing about Osteoporosis, will keep it front of mind, and keep me motivated there too. From yummy smoothie recipes to effective exercises, I hope to provide valuable insights and inspiration for anyone else facing similar challenges.
