International Hobbit Day at Wellington Cable Car πŸ§™πŸΌβ€β™‚οΈ

Kaydes and the Weta hand prop

Working at the Wellington Cable Car definitely comes with its perks, especially when it involves being part of exciting events! In the past weekend, we celebrated International Hobbit Day, which was held on Bilbo and Frodo Baggins’ shared birthday. The Wellington Cable Car collaborated with Wētā Workshop to create a truly magical experience. It was a perfect blend of fun, creativity, and a touch of Middle-earth for everyone who joined. Of course, the timing was great for a favourite hobbit tradition – second breakfast!

A Morning Full of Fun

When Kaydes arrived with my mum, she wasted no time wanting to get her face painted. She chose a strawberry for her cheek and a gold crown for her forehead, impressing me with how patiently she sat as the artist did the painting. When she saw her reflection, her face lit up with joy, and she proudly showed off her new look to both me and my mum.

The props display was another success. Wētā Workshop brought along various iconic items, including hobbit feet, a hand, and some Elven Armour for guests to explore up close. For Kaydes, the hand prop captured her attention. She spent ages touching it, completely enthralled by its lifelike details. I’m sure her recent fascination with Wednesday and its famous hand character played a major role!

Kaydes and the Wētā Wizard

The Wētā Wizard

One of the biggest highlights of the morning was meeting the Wētā Wizard. I thought he was truly wonderful! His energy and charm were contagious, and his ability to weave magic into simple interactions was nothing short of amazing! The wizard had a way of making each person feel like they were part of the adventure. He didn’t just interact with the crowd from a distance; he took the time to engage with everyone, sharing stories, answering questions, and even showing off a few magical items.

Kaydes was particularly fascinated by him. She followed him around, totally intrigued by his presence, though her shyness crept in when he tried to speak to her. Seeing how much joy he brought to the crowd, especially Kaydes, made the experience even more special. His presence truly captured the spirit of Hobbit Day, and it’s these times that remind me, just how much I love being a part of events like this at the Wellington Cable Car!

A Second Breakfast Feast

No celebration of Hobbit Day would be complete without a proper feast. True to hobbit tradition, we indulged in a delightful spread perfect for second breakfast. The offerings included red velvet cake, croissants, banana cake, and juice – an array that would satisfy any hobbit’s appetite. I assisted in setting up and serving the food. Which gave me the chance to chat with many fellow Middle-earth enthusiasts who were there to enjoy the festivities.

Looking Forward to the Next Adventure!

Hobbit Day at the Wellington Cable Car was an unforgettable experience for both of us. Whether it’s meeting wizards, indulging in second breakfast, or sharing in the excitement with fellow fans, there’s something wonderful about events like this. Kaydes even made her way into the local news about the event, posing with the hand prop that had captured her attention!

Did anyone else attend the event? What was your favourite part?
